HEB.12:1 "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses"

"Try the Spirits"

Dear Friends,

(First published 2008)

Greetings on this Halloween weekend, 2008. What about Halloween? Well, for one thing it is now one of the leading financial holidays in the United States, which in itself says a lot about the holiday and who promotes it. There has been much added over the years to Halloween, just as much has been added to Christmas, such as Santa Claus, etc. The best explanation we have been able to find comes from a book called "Celtic Mythology". Below is an excerpt from the book "Celtic Mythology".

The Celtic Connection

Our modern celebration of Halloween is a very distant descendant of the ancient Celtic fire festival called Samhain. It was the biggest and most significant holiday of the Celtic year. The Celts lived more than 2,000 years ago in what is now Great Britain, Ireland, and France. Their new year began on November 1.

Celtic legends tell us that on this night, all the hearth fires in Ireland were extinguished, and then re-lit from the central fire of the Druids at Tlachtga, 12 miles from the royal hill of Tara. Upon this sacred bonfire the Druids burned animals and crops. The extinguishing of the hearth fires symbolized the "dark half" of the year. The re-kindling from the Druidic fire was symbolic of the returning life that was hoped for in the spring.

In the Celtic belief system, turning points, such as the time between one day and the next, the meeting of sea and shore, or the turning of one year into the next were seen as magical times. The turning of the year was the most potent of these times. This was the time when the "veil between the worlds" was at its thinnest, and the dead could communicate with the living.

The feast of Samhain is described by MacCane as order suspended. "During this interval the normal order of the universe is suspended, the barriers between the natural and the supernatural are temporarily removed, the sidh lies open and all divine beings and the spirits of the dead move freely among men and interfere sometimes violently, in their affairs" (Celtic Mythology, p. 127).

What are we to make of this? Is this just a bunch of superstitious nonsense or is there any truth to this. Is there any scriptural or Biblical proof to support this system of belief? What about this parting of the veil?

The Bible is full of supernatural happenings, of which much of the organized church tends to place in the distant past and not relevant to the world today, or something evil and not to be dallied with. Below are only a very few examples of supernatural happenings in the Bible involving men with other dimensional beings.

GEN.3:8 "And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day." What if you were to relate that to a friend of yours?

1SA.28:7-8 "Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor. And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee." Saul chose the wrong channel from which to get his information, and because of this Saul and his two sons died the next day!

MAT.17:1-3 "And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him." Here is Jesus himself speaking with the dead! Sounds a bit like necromancy? John the Beloved, who wrote the Gospel of John, the epistles of 1-3 John, and the Book of Revelation, talked to the dead as well.

REV.19:9-10 "And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." This encounter didn't even take place on the earth, but another dimension.

Yes, there is a Spirit World and man is able to interact with beings of a another dimension. We have to be prayerful though, because the Spirit World contains both good and evil spirit beings. It is important you have your communication with the good positive spirits of God. In the book of 1Jn.4:1 the Bible tells us: "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God." Also 2CO.11:14 says: "for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light."

As we travel further into the End Time, and the "veil" becomes thinner, the spirit world and the physical world will be melding more and more together. It will be important that you are able to discern the spirits. The first line of offense is to make sure you have received Jesus into your life and heart so that as you yield to Him, His spirit can give you the discernment you need to "try" the spirits. 1JN.4:2-3 "Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world."

If you are not sure if Jesus has come in your flesh we invite you to pray this simple prayer; Dear Jesus, thank you for taking away my sins by the sacrifice you made in dying for me personally, I ask you to come into my life and heart and to give me eternal life, and to help me to live my life for you and others, and to give me wisdom and discernment to be able to try the spirits as we go further into the End Times. In Jesus name I pray.

We would be very happy to hear from you! Please take the time to drop us a note on any questions, comments, reactions, etc. you may have.

God bless and keep you discerning the spirits in the days to come.

We love you,
