Dear Friends,

Greetings! It would seem that for the past several weeks our editorial section has been dominated by what could be considered “religious” articles. This week we stay with the same theme.

Our first article deals with a planned crusade by Billy Graham and his organization, which also includes international evangelist Reinhard Bonnke, and “Harvest Crusades” President Greg Laurie – a Southern California megachurch pastor who became a believer during the legendary Jesus Movement of the late 1960s and 70s.

The hope of the crusade is to ignite what Billy Graham describes as an end-times “great spiritual awakening”.

Could this be the final gleaning for the United States before God's judgments begin to fall? It remains to be seen.

We also have an interesting article from Pat Robertson concerning comments he made which may surprise you, and Pope Francis' thoughts concerning a well known secret society.

Now, as you can most likely see, things seem to be going more and more haywire with each passing day. It seems we don't even have to wait a week any longer for something out of the ordinary to happen.

Some great verses to meditate on during uncertain times are Psalm 46:1-3: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.”

Concerning the word “selah” there is a diversity of opinions on the meaning of the word. Wikipedia says it is, “An instruction on the reading of the text, something like 'stop and listen'.”

Another source says,” 'Selah' is not meant to be read. It means to pause and meditate on what you just read.”

So in thinking about what would seem to be absolute devastating disasters described in Psalm 46 ; the earth being removed, mountains carried into the seas, the mountains shaking, and still, we are not to fear because God is our refuge and strength.

International evangelists believe God turning their attention to U.S.

“God’s prophet” – famed evangelist Billy Graham – is praying America will experience another “great spiritual awakening.”

International evangelist Reinhard Bonnke – whose ministry records 72 million people responding to the call of salvation in Africa and elsewhere – says God told him the time has come for “a mighty wave of salvation to sweep the USA.”

And Harvest Crusades President Greg Laurie – a Southern California megachurch pastor who became a believer during the legendary Jesus Movement of the late 1960s and 70s – believes America’s “only real hope” is national revival.

At a time when many believe the midnight hour on God’s prophetic clock is fast approaching, major evangelists – Billy Graham, Franklin Graham, Bonnke, Laurie, Chuck Smith, Banning Liebscher and others – are turning their attention toward America in the hope of helping ignite an end-times awakening.

The movement comes as Graham, the 94-year-old New York Times bestselling author and evangelist who has preached to more people – 2.2 billion – than any Protestant in history and has provided spiritual counsel to every president from Harry S. Truman to George W. Bush, released a letter last summer titled “My Heart Aches for America.”

In the letter, Graham wondered what his late wife, Ruth, would think of a nation in which “self-centered indulgence, pride and a lack of shame over sin are now emblems of the American lifestyle.”

Graham compared America to the ancient city of Nineveh, the lone superpower of its time. When the prophet Jonah finally traveled to Nineveh and proclaimed God’s warning, the people repented and escaped judgment, Graham wrote.

“I think it’s an apt description,” Laurie said. “I think in many ways America is like Nineveh. The wickedness of Nineveh was so great that God effectively said it was recognized up in heaven – ‘the sin of Nineveh has come before me’ – and I believe America is at such a state.”

Laurie said Graham “is a prophetic voice, and to me it’s like Isaiah or Jeremiah standing up and telling our nation what we need to do.”

“We would be wise to heed his warning and his admonitions and turn back to God, because I believe God’s prophet is speaking to us,” Laurie said.

Hope for America

“My Hope has been used in many countries and hundreds of thousands of people have received Christ as Savior,” Graham said. “I think it’s going to be a tremendous time of evangelism. I think that the Lord is going to use it mightily. I’ve been praying that we might have a spiritual awakening. But I think that becomes possible as individuals surrender their lives fresh and anew to Christ. And that’s the hope that we have.”

In a massive, nationwide event now involving more than 16,000 churches and hundreds of thousands of people, Americans are expected to gather with family, friends, neighbors and co-workers the week of Nov. 7 to watch programs featuring a new and powerful message from Graham, dynamic music and testimonies.

Some will invite guests into their homes or churches to learn about Jesus using television or video, while others will gather at a coffee shop or the park to watch the program on a tablet or smartphone.

“I believe this could be a huge night in American church history as hundreds of thousands of homes are opened and hundreds of thousands of people are sitting and watching and hearing the gospel,” said Franklin Graham, Graham’s son and president and chief executive officer of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. “It just might be one of the largest evangelistic efforts in the history of our nation.”

The My Hope America with Billy Graham event is part of a larger effort by major evangelists and ministries who are planning numerous evangelistic crusades, conferences and other events this year and next.

The movement began in February when Bonnke declared to 5,000 people in attendance at the two-day Gospel Fest in Vero Beach, Fla. that, “All America shall be saved!” Bonnke is best known for his crusades in Africa and for his cry, “All Africa shall be saved!”

On June 16, several thousand “Jesus People” gathered at the Calvary Chapel Summer Crusade with Franklin Graham and Calvary Chapel Pastor Chuck Smith in Costa Mesa, Calif. Then, on July 22-24, about 6,000 youth gathered for the Jesus Culture Conference in Universal City, Calif. where Bonnke spoke.

Bonnke, known for his Great Gospel Crusades in Africa in which as many as 1.6 million people attend, said God told him last year it was time to “cast the Gospel net across America.”

Bonnke will speak next Sept. 27-28 at the Good News Orlando crusade at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla.

He said he wants to fill the Orlando arena and then “go from city to city, from state to state and from coast to coast.”

“America will be saved!”

Bonnke said Americans “need to hear the Gospel.” When he preached in Germany, he said, skeptics told him Germans had rejected the Gospel.

“I preached in a stadium and when I made the altar call, the power of God was so wonderfully present that I saw with my own eyes people jumping over the benches to come forward,” Bonnke said. “They couldn’t come forward for the prayer of salvation fast enough, and then I realized one thing: Germany has not rejected the Gospel. I think the new generation has never really heard the Gospel.

“Every generation has a right to hear the Gospel, the ABC’s of the Gospel – the Gospel of salvation. And I believe the younger generation in America also has the right to hear the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ and make up its own mind.”

Call to repentance

The crusades and other events come as a number of spiritual and political leaders have made calls for repentance in recent years, arguing the nation is in a downward spiral of economic decline, corruption, immorality, secular humanism and attacks on religious liberty.

WND.com founder and Chief Executive Officer Joseph Farah is calling for a nationwide day of prayer, repentance and fasting on Sept. 11 – the 9/11: National Day of Prayer and Repentance – in response to the “ongoing downfall of our nation.” The plan is embraced by thousands around the country, including Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., Chuck Norris, Laurie and Rabbi Jonathan Cahn.

Cahn, author of the New York Times bestselling book “The Harbinger: The Ancient Mystery that holds the Secret of America’s Future,” said there is a strong awareness among believers and Christian leaders that America is in “great spiritual danger.”

“The speed of its departure from God has accelerated,” said Cahn, the senior rabbi at the nation’s largest messianic congregation, the Beth Israel Worship Center in Wayne, N.J., and a descendant of Aaron, the brother of the biblical prophet Moses. “Hardly a day passes without another step in the nation’s moral and spiritual descent. To anyone who is spiritually sensitive or, for that matter, who reads the Bible, the picture is clear.

“We stand at a tipping point,” he said. “I believe that’s why the Lord caused ‘The Harbinger’ to be released at this exact point in time. It’s a warning, the sounding of the trumpet, the call to return. The only hope we have is that of a turning of course, repentance, revival, a return to God.”

In addition to the annual Harvest Crusade Aug. 23-25 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., Laurie will preach Sept. 28-29 at Harvest America at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Harvest Crusades, in its 24th year of leading national and international Christian revivals, selected Philadelphia because of its history as the birthplace of the nation.

Many believe the U.S. is at a new historic crossroads and hope that events such as this can help bring spiritual revival across the land. The event will be held at 7 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28 and 29. Thousands of other locations around the country will participate via satellite and live-streaming.

“I think (Graham) is the reason we are seeing this emphasis on the gospel and bringing it to America,” said Laurie, who has preached to more than 4.7 million people and has seen nearly 400,000 make a faith decision since beginning Harvest Crusades in 1990. “Those of us who are Christians recognize that the only real hope for our country is for us to have a spiritual awakening.”

Mobilizing Matthews

Meanwhile, hundreds of ministers and others in all 50 states are continuing to gather in preparation meetings for My Home America with Billy Graham. At the meetings, pastors and lay church leaders are learning how to maximize the nationwide evangelistic outreach in their own congregations. Meetings are still taking place across the country through the summer. In addition to the meetings, thousands of individuals have registered for the project and participated in the free online training.

“The My Hope strategy asks churches to involve their members as Matthews,” said Preston Parrish, the BGEA vice president for My Hope America with Billy Graham. “Matthew was an early follower of Christ in the New Testament who had been a tax collector for the Romans. When he met Christ and began to follow Christ, he threw a party in his home and invited his friends so they could meet Jesus as well and experience his life-changing power.

“So these participating churches, more than 16,000 of them now, are encouraging their church members to make themselves available as Matthews – as people who will open their homes to their family members, neighbors, friends, co-workers and others in conjunction with a specially-prepared program in which Billy Graham communicates the Gospel.”

After the broadcast, Parish encourages these “Matthews” to share their brief, personal stories of salvation about how Jesus has changed their lives and then give a “loving invitation … to begin having this experience of a relationship with Jesus Christ too.”

Franklin Graham, who conducted his first evangelistic event in 1989 and has since preached to more than 7 million people around the world, said it’s called “living room evangelism.”

“It’s beginning to pray now for your unsaved family and friends and on Nov. 7 invite them to your home,” he said. “Have a hot dog, have a meal. Everyone has friends and family come to their homes, but invite some of your unsaved ones. Have them come and we will bring the telecast everyone can watch, either by downloading it on your computer or watching it on television. There are a number of formats in terms of ways it can be seen.

“But the point is it’s a 30-minute program and at the end of the 30 minutes the Gospel is given. The invitation is there. All you have to do then is turn to your family and friends and say, ‘You heard Dr. Graham. What do you think? Would you like to invite Christ into your heart?’ Once the invitation is extended, then you just watch the Holy Spirit go to work.”

Franklin Graham said the event couldn’t come at a more important time in America’s history. He says America “is in trouble.”

“We have turned our back morally and spiritually on God,” Franklin Graham said. “Our churches are in trouble, too. We are so concerned about being relevant to the culture. God never called us to be relevant to the culture. Our Father in heaven has called us to be obedient to Him. We are to be faithful and true. But the fact this whole relativism has got a hold of our churches is troubling to me. We need to get back to what God has called us to do and that is to evangelize.”

The church, he said, is “losing our country.”

“We are not evangelizing,” he said. “We have all these religions coming into our country. We have opened up the door to Islam and Hinduism and all these other religions have come in. They are making great strides, but the church is asleep. We are praying that with My Hope this fall that churches would catch a vision for evangelism and they would see that evangelism works.”

When asked if there is still hope, Cahn said if there was no hope there would be no harbingers and no book called “The Harbinger.”

“Why would there be warnings if there was no chance to heed them,” Cahn said. “If I only looked at the direction in which American culture is heading, I would have no hope. But with God, there’s hope. The fact that so many of God’s people and leaders are feeling led to pray, to seek God’s face, and to repent is a good sign. It may even be taken as a sign of God’s grace.”

When people ask Cahn what the future holds for America – judgment or revival – he says he answers “there can be both.”

“In fact, revival can even come through judgment and national shaking,” Cahn said. “And the Lord can touch a remnant in the midst of national judgment. It’s interesting that these calls for prayer including that of 9/11: National Day of Prayer and Repentance converge around the time of the holy days of the Bible – the days which are linked to judgment, repentance and return to God.”

Pat Robertson on 700 Club: ‘No sin associated with’ sex-change operation

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, July 31, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Pat Robertson told the audience of the 700 Club that there is “no sin associated” with having one's genitals surgically removed and receiving hormone treatments in order to live as a member of the opposite sex.

"I work with two people who have decided they are females," said a writer named David during the Monday episode of the long-running Christian program's question-and-answer session, "Bring It On." He asked, "Is it wrong to refer to them as females since they have had their gender status changes in the eyes of the law?"

Robertson began by saying, "I don't understand all that.”

But he proceeded to answer, “I think there are men who are in a woman’s body. It’s very rare, but it’s true.”

The 83-year-old evangelical said a sex-change operation is “a very permanent thing, believe me, when you have certain body parts amputated and you have shot up with various kinds of hormones.”

“I don’t think there’s any sin associated with that,” he concluded. “I don’t condemn somebody for doing that.”

Robertson told the program's estimated one million viewers that he would “question the validity” of a non-operative transgender person, because “you don't count somebody as female unless they really are.”

He concluded by saying that if someone has had such a surgery, "It's not for you to decide or to judge” about the person's motives.

Video of the segment soon went viral, drawing praise from quarters of the blogosphere that usually have nothing but scorn for the founder of the Christian Coalition. The Advocate, Think Progress, and the libertarian Reason magazine favorably covered his remarks.

“For a major religious right leader to acknowledge that being trans is a real thing, and not simply some kind of 'disorder,' and then for them to say that it isn’t sin and he wouldn’t condemn someone for getting a sex change, is a huge deal,” wrote John Aravosis, an activist who edits the homosexual America blog.

“Robertson’s statement is, at its core, sympathetic,” he added. “These are the kind of positive statements that help a movement move forward, especially one that is less known to the public than, for example, being gay. Say what you will about Robertson, but this quote is very helpful.”

Sex reassignment surgery requires men to be castrated and then have a plastic surgeon fashion a vagina out of their tissue. Women seeking to transition must have a hysterectomy and a double mastectomy before having a male sexual organ created from body tissue and a plastic rod.

Traditional Christians have condemned such actions as a form of self-mutilation since the days of the ancient church.

Speaking specifically of castration, the Apostolic Canons, a fourth century Syrian document, states, “If a layman mutilate himself, let him be excommunicated for three years, as practising against his own life.”

More contemporary teachers uphold the Christian admonition to maintain one's biological gender and respect our bodies.

"To destroy organs purposefully that are healthy and functioning, and to try to create imitation organs which will never have the genuineness and functioning of authentic organs lacks charity,” said Fr. William Saunders, professor of Catechetics and Theology at Christendom College's Notre Dame Graduate School. "Such surgery which purposefully destroys the bodily integrity of the person must be condemned.”

The National Catholic Bioethics Center wrote, "Changing one’s sex is fundamentally impossible; these procedures are fundamentally acts of mutilation...Doing violence to one’s body when there is nothing wrong with it is an unjustifiable mutilation.

“Furthermore, seeking such a mutilation manifests a self-hatred inconsistent with the charity we owe to ourselves,” the group added. “Persons seeking such operations are clearly uncomfortable with who they really are. Loving such persons properly demands addressing the beliefs and self-understanding that give rise to this fundamental rejection of self.”

Robertson, who has a history of controversial statements on everything from divorcing Alzheimer's patients to excusing China's one-child policy, stirred controversy again on Wednesday, when he called the use of birth control “a very important part of humanity” to protect against the proliferation of Appalachian “ragamuffins” and appeared to say Natural Family Planning violated the Old Testament Law.

The 1988 presidential candidate -- whose ministry has brought millions to Christ and into the political process -- is typically reviled for defending traditional Christian morality on abortion, homosexuality, and the feminist movement.

Pope Francis: ‘Masonic Lobbies … This Is The Most Serious Problem for Me’

(CNSNews.com) – In his recent comments about homosexual clergy, Pope Francis said the problem was not a gay person of good will seeking God but a “gay lobby” pushing an agenda, adding that a political lobby or a Masonic lobby constituted “the most serious problem” for him.

On his July 28 flight from Rio to Rome, Pope Francis spoke with reporters for 80 minutes. When asked about an apparent “gay lobby” of clergy at the Vatican, the Pope said, “In these situations, it's important to distinguish between a gay person and a gay lobby, because having a lobby is never good. If a gay person is a person of good will who seeks God, who am I to judge? The Catechism of the Church explains this very beautifully. It outlines that gays should not be marginalized.”

Pope Francis then said, “The problem is not having this [homosexual] orientation. No, we must be brothers and sisters. The problem is lobbying for this orientation, or lobbies of greed, political lobbies, Masonic lobbies, so many lobbies. This is the most serious problem for me. And thank you so much for this question. Thank you very much!”

Having a homosexual orientation is not the problem if the person with that tendency is doing the morally right thing and seeking to follow God’s will in accordance with Church teachings, according to the Pope. The problem is with those who push or lobby for a pro-gay agenda in the same way that lobbies may press a political issue or when Freemasons lobby their agenda.

Catholics are forbidden from joining Masonic organizations and, for those who do, they are subsequently in a “state of grave sin and may not receive Holy Communion.” As Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI) explained in 1983, Masonic “principles have always been considered irreconcilable with the doctrine of the Church and therefore membership in them remains forbidden.”

The Catholic Church and numerous Popes have criticized Freemasonry since at least 1738. In his encyclical letter Humanum Genus in 1884, Pope Leo XIII said, “As Our predecessors have many times repeated, let no man think that he may for any reason whatsoever join the Masonic sect, if he values his Catholic name and his eternal salvation as he ought to value them.”

In 1917, the Code of Canon Law, the law of the Church, Section 2335, said, “Those who join a Masonic sect or other societies of the same sort, which plot against the Church or against legitimate civil authority, incur ipso facto an excommunication simply reserved to the Holy See.”

When the Code of Canon Law was updated in 1983, Section 1374, in place of the older 2335, said, “A person who joins an association which plots against the Church is to be punished with a just penalty; one who promotes or takes office in such an association is to be punished with an interdict.”

Because the word “Masonic” had been dropped in the 1983 code there was some confusion about whether the canon law still applied to such groups. In response, then-Cardinal Ratzinger, the future Pope Benedict XVI, issued a Declaration on Masonic Associations.

Issued on Nov. 26, 1983, it states, “Therefore the Church’s negative judgment in regard to Masonic association remains unchanged since their principles have always been considered irreconcilable with the doctrine of the Church and therefore membership in them remains forbidden. The faithful who enrol in Masonic associations are in a state of grave sin and may not receive Holy Communion.”

The Declaration further says, “In an audience granted to the undersigned Cardinal Prefect, the Supreme Pontiff John Paul II approved and ordered the publication of this Declaration which had been decided in an ordinary meeting of this Sacred Congregation.”

At the time, Card. Ratzinger served as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith under Pope John Paul II.

This enormous pentagram etched into the ground next to a lake in an isolated corner of Kazakhstan, has had conspiracy theorists all of a flutter after it appeared on Google Earth.

The five-pointed star symbol which measures some 366 metres in diameter, is situated on the southern shore of the Upper Tobol Reservoir in the north of the country.

Pentagrams are commonly associated with devil-worship, but are also used in the Bahai religion and Chinese Taoism as well as neopaganists and followers of the Greek mathematician Pythagoras.

Location: The strange symbol is situated 12 miles west of the town of Lisakovsk

But quite what the symbol, which is visible on Google Earth here, is doing in such a remote location remains a mystery.

While some have jumped to the conclusion that it is obviously the work of a secretive satanic cult, others believe it could be the remains of a Russian military base.

One internet user, Kurt Yates, from Seattle, Washington, posted on the Live Science website: 'It's probably an abandoned surface to air missile site.

'I was a military pilot and these things are all over the place in areas that use(d) Russian (Soviet) air defense systems.

'The shape has something to do with how their tracking radars work.

'Considering the size of it and the proximity to the Baikonur Cosmodrome, I'd say it possibly was used for tracking Soyuz rockets or some such.'

The satanic link is further strengthened by the fact the spot has been highlighted on Googlemaps by two users called 'Adam' and 'Lucifer', both of which are names associated with the devil.

The pentagram was used as a Christian symbol in ancient times to represent the five senses and to symbolise the five wounds of Christ. It was also believe to protect against demons.

Neopagans, such as wiccans, use it as a symbol of faith similar to the Jewish Star of David. The circle is said to represent unity and protection.

Satanist pentagrams, are commonly drawn with two points up and the head of a goat inside and are referred to as the Sigil of Baphomet.

They are associated with fallen angels and are used as a sign of rebellion or religious identification.

The three downward points are supposed to represent the rejection of Trinity.

Military link? One theory is that the pentangle is the remains of a Russian tracking station used to monitor Soyuz rockets

The Nephilim… So many questions come to mind when we hear this word. Whether you are a born-again Christian who believes in the existence of the Nephilim on this Earth as a direct result of the Genesis accounts, a secular archeologist or historian that merely can’t deny the existence of some form of prehistoric man-giant as a result of the evidence, or a skeptic that merely thinks the subject matter is all some spectacularly arranged hoax, one thing is true: Ears perk up and heads turn, on a global level, at the mention of these fantastical humanoids, and the interest is only growing…

What was once merely a vastly overlooked and rarely addressed part of the Bible by mainstream church leaders has become a colossal point of interest for researchers like L.A. Marzulli, author of On the Trail of the Nephilim: Giant Skeletons & Ancient Megalithic Structures and filmmaker of corresponding documentary: Watchers 6: The Secret Cosmic War. Mention of these beings is popping up all over the place in major media, the magnitude of which even I (a fan of the subject) was unaware until I observed the vast collection of documentation, public and otherwise, that Marzulli covered in his book.

Oftentimes, materials addressing the Nephilim are approached from the biblical directive with focus on the accounts of Genesis, the Book of Enoch, and modern interpretations or commentaries of ancient Scripture, leaning more on the study of literary history and sacred prophecy than of archeological findings. Unfortunately, this creates a conflict of interest for the reader who wants to see tangible evidence. Those materials that do adopt a more evidence-based report, as Marzulli has shown in On the Trail of the Nephilim, controversially hide these strange bones, artifacts, and dig sites from the eager public, concealing much behind the red tape, ardently claiming a Darwinian position and dismissing (or silencing) any other voice or contradiction to their sciences. Unfortunately, an agenda and bias of this degree has a tendency to dilute, or completely negate, reports of this nature.

How refreshing was Marzulli’s book and DVD documentary in light of this conundrum.

Marzulli, though willing to share his cohesive and sound, Christian-minded conclusions of the evidence, steered clear of committing the classic reporter-suicide mistake that so many religious researchers make upon directing the attention of their audience perpetually back to whatever evidence supports their own agenda and turning a blind eye to the rest. I find that this is far too common a practice among the Christian publishing world, which is a downright tragedy. Something can be said for those who list all the available facts (those that do, and don’t, support their belief system), and let the facts speak for themselves and the puzzle pieces land where they will for the individual reader/viewer. This is precisely what Marzulli has done.

Trekking in person to the more obscure scientific territories and museums of Peru to study the “UNSPOILED EVIDENCE” (as Marzulli notes on the back of his DVD case) of the so-called “Inca” remains resulted in both book images and documentary film footage that was more than just fascinating. Whether one takes the believer’s stance or that of the skeptic, there is simply no explanation for these elongated and oddly sutured skulls, tall “human” bones, impossibly built structures, and other relics of ancient history, other than the conclusion that there had to have been, on this Earth, a race of giants at some historical juncture who left their dead remains buried in our soils and their massive stone architecture standing on our lands. Who they were and what their agenda was remains to be heatedly debated in some circles, but I personally found Marzulli’s report and theories to make more sense than most, expertly balancing hard, physical evidence with literary history.

There is a relentless assault on the family in America today unlike anything that we have ever seen before. For decades, the entertainment industry and the mainstream media have been portraying marriage as the time “when your fun is over” and they have been encouraging young adults to put off marriage for as long as possible.

So now the marriage rate in the United States is at a record low and the average age for a first marriage is at a record high. Meanwhile, the entertainment industry and the mainstream media have been heavily promoting the philosophy that having fewer children is better, and they have been teaching our young people that abortion is a really good option if an unwanted pregnancy comes along. The whole idea is that children are going to keep you from enjoying the kind of life that you really deserve to have.

This philosophy is taken even further in a new Time Magazine article. The article is entitled “The Childfree Life: When having it all means not having children“, and it openly promotes a “childless lifestyle” as the path to the good life for young U.S. couples. The following is how the article begins…

One evening when she was 14 years old, Laura Scott was washing dishes in the kitchen with her mother when she decided she didn’t want to have a child. At 26, Scott got married and waited for her mind to change. “It never happened,” she says. “And I realized I was going to be fine.” Now 50, Scott is more than fine: she’s fulfilled. And she’s not alone. The birthrate in the U.S. is the lowest in recorded American history. From 2007 to 2011, the most recent year for which there’s data, the fertility rate declined 9%. A 2010 Pew Research report showed that childlessness has risen across all racial and ethnic groups, adding up to about 1 in 5 American women who end their childbearing years maternity-free, compared with 1 in 10 in the 1970s.

The article goes on to point out that the average cost of raising a child born in 2011 to adulthood will be approximately$234,900, and it suggests that women should think long and hard before making such a commitment.

Well, what is a woman to do if she gets pregnant and she decides that raising that child will ruin her life?

According to the entertainment industry and the mainstream media, abortion is a very simple answer to that problem.

In America today, the vast majority of abortions are done for the sake of convenience. Abortion is essentially a human sacrifice to our own selfishness, and there are millions upon millions of Americans that will go to any lengths to justify the murder of their own children.

In fact, it has gotten so bad that now many liberal thinkers are even postulating that life may not even begin at birth unless parents decide that it does.

Yes, that sounds absolutely insane, but that is apparently what MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry believes…

MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry thinks she has the answer to the ages old question of just when life begins. Her answer: life begins whenever parents “decide” it does.

Practically since the beginning of the national abortion debate the most fought over question between the pro-abortion and pro-life sides is just when does life begin? In an attempt to avoid the arbitrary, most try to utilize some sort of scientific reasoning to decide when life is life. The pro-life side says life begins as soon as the egg is fertilized while the pro-abortion side often contends that life isn’t life until it is self-sustaining, meaning a fetus isn’t “life” until it can survive outside the womb.

But here comes extreme left-winger Harris-Perry to offer the most arbitrary criteria of all: whenever anyone feels like life begins, then that is “life.”

“When does life begin? I submit the answer depends an awful lot on the feeling of the parents. A powerful feeling–but not science,” Harris-Perry said on her July 21 MSNBC show.

As a result of our national obsession with selfishness, our population growth has now fallen below replacement rate. The following is from a recent article by Aaron Dykes and Melissa Melton…

Meanwhile most Western nations are now facing a “baby bust,” with population growth falling well below the replacement rate. The global fertility rate has fallen to 2.42 births in 2011 numbers (with 2.1 needed for statistical replacement, or, an equilibrium of human births). The United States, like other Western nations, has already fallen below replacement rate, with a population growth rate of 0.9% and falling, insufficient for continuity, which in turn affects the possibilities for economic growth.

Today we look around and wonder where we will get the trillions of dollars of retirement benefits that we have promised to the Baby Boomers.

Well, if we had not aborted more than 50 million babies since Roe v. Wade was decided, perhaps we would have enough workers to pay the bills.

And as I mentioned earlier in this article, our obsession with selfishness has also resulted in the U.S. marriage rate dropping to an all-time record low…

The marriage rate has fluctuated in the past, with dips in the 1930s and 1960s, but it has been in steady decline since the 1970s. Now, researchers report that the marriage rate has dropped to a new low of 31.1, meaning there are about 31 marriages in the U.S. for every 1,000 unmarried women, researchers found. In 1950, that number was 90.2. In 1920, it was 92.3.

In America today, young men and young women are both taught that they need to put off marriage until their educations are done and their careers have started.

So instead of entering into committed relationships at a young age like previous generations did, our young people are being encouraged to embrace “the hookup culture”. The following is an excerpt from a recent article by Mona Charen entitled “The New Brainwashing: Women Like Hookups“…

Fifty years on, we have this dispatch from the University of Pennsylvania: “Sex on Campus: She Can Play That Game Too,” a New York Times account of the way women at one Ivy League school are supposedly “hooking up” in preference to having relationships. It’s not that the sexual revolution actually favored men, the Times reassures its readers, it’s just that women are too focused on careers to make time for men. They pursue sex with “hookup buddies” without a flicker of regret.

This is the new brainwashing. Women have been sold (and sold and sold) on the notion that happiness and fulfillment are to be found in careers. Marriage and children are items to be calendared after the MBA, J.D., or Ph.D. Sex is recreation. Getting attached to the human being behind the sex organ can limit your internship options.

Cheerleading articles like Hanna Rosin’s 2012 Atlantic piece, “Boys on the Side,” argue that far from enduring the “hook-up culture,” women are enjoying their promiscuous freedom. TheNew York Times piece is in that mold.

In this type of environment, anyone that embraces the “old ways” is considered to be abnormal.

In fact, MTV plans to do a new “freaks on display” reality show about virgins that they hope will get very high ratings…

This as-yet-untitled show follows the lives of several abstinent young people (ages 18 to 25) trying to handle their love lives, parental sex talks, sexually active friends, and the pressure to give in to their temptations. Throughout each episode, MTV chronicles v-card-carrying cast members from across the country, all “plagued with the overwhelming question of keeping their virginity… or losing it.”

Sadly, our entire society is rapidly rejecting traditional values regarding marriage, sex and family. If you can believe it, Barack Obama recently even nominated someone for a federal judge position that believes that abstinence education is “unconstitutional“.

Right now, a massive amount of highly radioactive water is escaping into the Pacific Ocean from the ruins of the destroyed Fukushima nuclear facility in Japan. This has been going on all day, every day for more than two years.

The enormous amounts of tritium, cesium and strontium that are being released are being carried by wind, rain and ocean currents all over the northern Hemisphere. And of course the west coast of the United States is being hit particularly hard. When you drink water or eat seafood that has been contaminated with these radioactive particles, they can stick around for a very long time. Over the coming years, this ongoing disaster could potentially affect the health of millions upon millions of people living in the northern hemisphere, and the sad thing is that a lot of those people will never even know the true cause of their health problems.

For a long time, the Japanese government has been trusting Tepco to handle this crisis, but now it has become abundantly clear that Tepco has no idea what they are doing. In fact, the flow of radioactive water has gotten so bad that authorities in Japan are now calling it an “emergency”…

Highly radioactive water seeping into the ocean from Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear plant is creating an “emergency” that the operator is struggling to contain, an official from the country’s nuclear watchdog said on Monday.

This contaminated groundwater has breached an underground barrier, is rising toward the surface and is exceeding legal limits of radioactive discharge, Shinji Kinjo, head of a Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA) task force, told Reuters.

The amount of water that we are talking about is absolutely enormous. According to Yahoo, 400 metric tons of water is being pumped into the basements of destroyed buildings at Fukushima every single day…

The utility pumps out some 400 metric tons a day of groundwater flowing from the hills above the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant into the basements of the destroyed buildings, which mixes with highly irradiated water that is used to cool the reactors in a stable state below 100 degrees Celsius.

Tepco is trying to prevent groundwater from reaching the plant by building a “bypass” but recent spikes of radioactive elements in sea water has prompted the utility to reverse months of denials and finally admit that tainted water is reaching the sea.

And of course all of that water has to go somewhere. For a long time Tepco tried to deny that it was getting into the ocean, but now they are finally admitting that it is…

Tepco said on Friday that a cumulative 20 trillion to 40 trillion becquerels of radioactive tritium had probably leaked into the sea since the disaster. The company said this was within legal limits.

Tritium is far less harmful than cesium and strontium, which have also been released from the plant. Tepco is scheduled to test strontium levels next.

40 trillion becquerels of radioactive tritium have gotten into the Pacific Ocean?

And that is what they are publicly admitting. The reality is probably far worse.

And all of that tritium is going to be around for a very long time. You see, the truth is that tritium has a half-life of about 12 years.

But strontium is even worse. Strontium can cause bone cancer and it has a half-life of close to 29 years.

And now Tepco is admitting that extremely dangerous levels of strontium have been escaping from Fukushima and getting into the underground water. And of course the underground water flows out into the Pacific Ocean…

Tepco said in late June that it had detected the highly toxic strontium-90, a by-product of nuclear fission that can cause bone cancer if ingested, at levels 30 times the permitted rate.

The substances, which were released by the meltdowns of reactors at the plant in the aftermath of the huge tsunami of March 2011, were not absorbed by soil and have made their way into underground water.

Subsoil water usually flows out to sea, meaning these two substances could normally make their way into the ocean, possibly affecting marine life and ultimately impacting humans who eat sea creatures.

Cesium has an even longer half-life than strontium does. It has a half life of about 30 years, and according to samples that were taken about a month ago levels of cesium at Fukushima have been spiking dramatically…

Samples taken on Monday showed levels of possibly cancer-causing caesium-134 were more than 90 times higher than they were on Friday, at 9000 becquerels per litre, Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) revealed.

Levels of caesium-137 stood at 18 000 becquerels per litre, 86 times higher than at the end of last week, the utility said.

“We still don’t know why the level of radiation surged, but we are continuing efforts to avert further expansion of contamination,” a Tepco spokesperson stated.

When cesium gets into your body, it can do a tremendous amount of damage. The following is an excerpt from a NewScientist article that described what happens when cesium and iodine enter the human body…

Moreover the human body absorbs iodine and caesium readily. “Essentially all the iodine or caesium inhaled or swallowed crosses into the blood,” says Keith Baverstock, former head of radiation protection for the World Health Organization’s European office, who has studied Chernobyl’s health effects.

Iodine is rapidly absorbed by the thyroid, and leaves only as it decays radioactively, with a half-life of eight days. Caesium is absorbed by muscles, where its half-life of 30 years means that it remains until it is excreted by the body. It takes between 10 and 100 days to excrete half of what has been consumed.

And it is important to keep in mind that it has been estimated that each spent fuel pool at the Fukushima nuclear complex could have 24,000 times the amount of cesium that was produced by the nuclear bomb that the U.S. dropped on Hiroshima at the end of World War 2.

Overall, the Fukushima nuclear facility originally contained a whopping 1760 tons of nuclear material.

That is a massive amount of nuclear material. Chernobyl only contained 180 tons.

And of course the crisis at Fukushima could be made even worse at any moment by a major

earthquake. In fact, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit northern Japan on Sunday.

This is a nightmare that has no end. Every single day, massive amounts of highly radioactive water from Fukushima is systematically poisoning the entire Pacific Ocean. The damage that is being done is absolutely incalculable.

The Sun's Magnetic Field is about to Flip

Something big is about to happen on the sun. According to measurements from NASA-supported observatories, the sun's vast magnetic field is about to flip.

"It looks like we're no more than 3 to 4 months away from a complete field reversal," says solar physicist Todd Hoeksema of Stanford University. "This change will have ripple effects throughout the solar system."

The sun's magnetic field changes polarity approximately every 11 years. It happens at the peak of each solar cycle as the sun's inner magnetic dynamo re-organizes itself. The coming reversal will mark the midpoint of Solar Cycle 24. Half of 'Solar Max' will be behind us, with half yet to come.

Hoeksema is the director of Stanford's Wilcox Solar Observatory, one of the few observatories in the world that monitor the sun's polar magnetic fields. The poles are a herald of change. Just as Earth scientists watch our planet's polar regions for signs of climate change, solar physicists do the same thing for the sun. Magnetograms at Wilcox have been tracking the sun's polar magnetism since 1976, and they have recorded three grand reversals—with a fourth in the offing.

Solar physicist Phil Scherrer, also at Stanford, describes what happens: "The sun's polar magnetic fields weaken, go to zero, and then emerge again with the opposite polarity. This is a regular part of the solar cycle."

A reversal of the sun's magnetic field is, literally, a big event. The domain of the sun's magnetic influence (also known as the "heliosphere") extends billions of kilometers beyond Pluto. Changes to the field's polarity ripple all the way out to the Voyager probes, on the doorstep of interstellar space.

When solar physicists talk about solar field reversals, their conversation often centers on the "current sheet." The current sheet is a sprawling surface jutting outward from the sun's equator where the sun's slowly-rotating magnetic field induces an electrical current. The current itself is small, only one ten-billionth of an amp per square meter (0.0000000001 amps/m2), but there’s a lot of it: the amperage flows through a region 10,000 km thick and billions of kilometers wide. Electrically speaking, the entire heliosphere is organized around this enormous sheet.

During field reversals, the current sheet becomes very wavy. Scherrer likens the undulations to the seams on a baseball. As Earth orbits the sun, we dip in and out of the current sheet. Transitions from one side to another can stir up stormy space weather around our planet.

Cosmic rays are also affected. These are high-energy particles accelerated to nearly light speed by supernova explosions and other violent events in the galaxy. Cosmic rays are a danger to astronauts and space probes, and some researchers say they might affect the cloudiness and climate of Earth. The current sheet acts as a barrier to cosmic rays, deflecting them as they attempt to penetrate the inner solar system. A wavy, crinkly sheet acts as a better shield against these energetic particles from deep space.

As the field reversal approaches, data from Wilcox show that the sun's two hemispheres are out of synch.

"The sun's north pole has already changed sign, while the south pole is racing to catch up," says Scherrer. "Soon, however, both poles will be reversed, and the second half of Solar Max will be underway."

When that happens, Hoeksema and Scherrer will share the news with their colleagues and the public.

WASHINGTON – Is the flipping sun about to cause a catastrophe of unprecedented proportions?

The sun is about to flip its magnetic field, at the peak of its 11-year solar cycle or at the half-way point of what scientists call a solar maximum – when the star is at its most violent in terms of solar flares and the Earth is most vulnerable to an electromagnetic pulse.

That’s the surge of sun energy that scientists say could in an instant return the developed world to an agrarian society, essentially without any electronics, and leave millions dead.

This mid-way point is expected in about four months – a December/January time frame – putting Earth in a position of greatest vulnerability even as the solar maximum diminishes well into 2014.

Scientists for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA, have said the sun will reach its most intense period this year and well into next.

Others have suggested that even until 2020 Earth still could be exposed to solar flares that if they hit Earth directly could knock out the U.S. national grid system and fry electronic components and automated control systems not only in the U.S. but in other industrialized countries.

“It looks like we’re no more than three to four months away from a complete field reversal,” according to Todd Hoeksema, director of Stanford University’s Wilcox Solar Observatory. “This change will have ripple effects throughout the solar system.”

NASA officials say that as the magnetic field shifts, the “current sheet” which is a surface that radiates billions of kilometers from the sun’s equator, becomes very wavy.

Since Earth orbits the sun, it dips in and out of these waves of the “current sheet.” NASA officials said that the transition from a wave to a dip creates stormy space weather around Earth.

Scientists say that the change also can provide some shielding from dangerous cosmic rays, which are high-energy particles created by supernova explosions and travel at the speed of light of approximately 186,000 miles a second or, to be exact, 299,792,458 meters per second.

However, cosmic rays are not the same as the solar flares which spew from dark spots on the sun’s surface.

Indeed, solar flare activity on the sun recently has increased as sun spots begin to shift and are aligned on a direct path toward Earth.

The solar flares create an electromagnetic pulse, or EMP, effect that can wipe out electrical grids and communications systems and fry electronics.

Some of these solar flares can be more than 20 times the size of the Earth.

Experts say that Earth experienced the largest recorded direct solar flare in 1859, which is called the Carrington Event. At the time, the only pieces of electrical equipment were the telegraph and the first parts of the trans-Atlantic cable.

The direct hit from the solar flare burned the telegraph wires, creating fires and explosions. The effects felt round the world last for three days. At the time, the trans-Atlantic cable was just being laid but also had to replaced due to the impact of the EMP on the equipment.

Since then, countries have come to be dependent on electricity, electronic components and automated control systems to survive as a society.

Experts say that a Carrington-type EMP event occurs every 100 years. However, it’s been 154 years since that event, making Earth overdue for a similar event but with more catastrophic effects on critical infrastructures due to their dependency on electricity.

A direct hit from the EMP from a solar flare not only would knock out all unprotected electronics but could subject 90 percent of world’s population to starvation and death, particularly in urban areas.

This is due to the fact that all critical infrastructures on which a technological society such as the United States depends would fail in a cascading effect once the grid is knocked out.

These critical infrastructures include telecommunications, financial and banking systems, food and water delivery, emergency services and petroleum deliveries, among others. No cash registers would work, no fuel pumps, no trucks to deliver food, no networks like phone, power and water systems — in essence, a return to an agrarian society.

In addition to the 1859 Carrington event, other notable solar flare-documented EMP events have occurred.

In 1972, a major solar flare knocked out the long-distance phone communications across some states, including Illinois, according to NASA. The event caused AT&T to redesign its power system for transatlantic cables.

In 1989, a powerful solar flare set off a major power blackout in Canada that left six million people without electricity for nine hours, The flare disrupted electric power transmission from the Hydro Quebec generating station and even melted some power transformers in New Jersey.

In 2003, a solar flare initially measured at X28 overwhelmed a spacecraft sensor measuring it. Later analysis revealed that the flare had actually reached a peak strength of X45. That solar storm was part of a string of some nine major flares that had occurred over a two-week period.

Even in death, Jerome and Diane Pawlak were inseparable

Jerome and Diane Pawlak were married in 1951 and died only moments apart.

'Neither one wanted to start the next chapter without each other,' says son

It was just after midnight, and Diane Pawlak sat in the intensive care unit at her husband's bedside — the man she married nearly 62 years ago when she was just 19. The man who worked for 41 years at Miller Brewery to support their five sons. The man she spent so many days with — at their Bay View bungalow, at their wooded Crandon getaway.

"Goodbye, Jerry," she said as she held his hand. "You can go."

Then she clutched her chest, slumped back in her chair.

"I knew right away she was gone," said her son Jerry. He went to the emergency room with her, where a doctor confirmed what he and his brother already knew.

His brother Joe had stayed with their father, hospitalized with a fever and infection related to leukemia.

The sons met in an ER hallway.

"Is Dad gone?" Jerry asked Joe. He nodded.

"Mom's gone, too," Jerry told him.

The Bay View life

Jerome Pawlak and Diane Lepak grew up in Bay View a few blocks apart. She was friends with one of his sisters — that's how she met Jerry. They married on Nov. 24, 1951, Thanksgiving weekend. She'd just graduated from St. Mary's Academy. He'd just gotten out of the service, having served in the Army.

Together, they built the simple life that they had always wanted. He worked at Miller Brewing, in the bottling house. She worked for about a decade as a checkout clerk at the Kohl's food store on Howell Ave. Later, she worked as the bookkeeper at St. Sebastian Church and for the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi.

From 1965 to 1995, they raised their family in a bungalow on California St. in Bay View, socializing with a close group of friends who met for steak dinners and birthdays. When someone in the group turned 40, they got a pie in the face.

"You never knew who was going to give it to you, or when," Jerry Pawlak said. But the pie was delivered.

Diane Pawlak played the accordion, organ and banjo.

"Simple, fun times — that's what they were," Jerry said. "It was just what you did then — you get married, you raise five kids.

"They were not flashy. They cared deeply about their five sons, their daughters-in-law, their grandchildren," he added. "Family friends and their Catholic faith — that's how they went through life."

There was one other thing: There was no Jerome without Diane.

"They didn't go separately anywhere. It was together," he said. "My mother was the stronger personality. My father was the silent type. My mother discussed everything with him, and no decision would be made unless both of them agreed on it. My mom did lay down the law in the house, but if my father had to come in and say anything, we knew we were really in trouble."

In 1970, they bought 80 acres of wooded land near Crandon. They called it Pawlak's Daisy Acres, put a mobile home on it, and added a screened porch to it. They built sheds. There was fishing and swimming and mini-bikes.

Jerome found projects. "They were laborers. Workers. They always kept busy," Jerry said.

In 1995, the couple moved to a ranch house in South Milwaukee.

In January, Jerome was diagnosed with leukemia, and he had been in and out of the hospital ever since. He went to the Wheaton Franciscan Hospital in Franklin late Tuesday with a fever of 104. By 11:45 p.m., 86-year-old Jerome was "coding" — cardiac arrest — and a medical team revived him. Shortly after midnight Wednesday, he was in a room, his 81-year-old wife seated at his side, his sons nearby.

"His breathing was getting shallower and shallower, and my mom was holding his hand. My mom was just kind of saying her goodbyes to him," their son Jerry said. She died of an apparent heart attack.

Their sons debated whether to talk about how their parents left life. Would they have wanted that?

"My parents, they were simple people. They did not look for attention," Jerry said. "You try to honor them as best you can, their lives together. The love. To start the next chapter of eternal life together, it was just fitting for my parents."

The sons call it a blessing.

"In a sense we take relief, that there was no suffering," Jerry said.

"We think that she wanted to go with him. They were truly inseparable. And I think neither one wanted to start the next chapter without each other," he said.

Their son Joe added, "They're going to argue in heaven back forth on the technicality — who went first. They basically started their new life together. The two were one."
