Once named by Maxim as one of the hottest porn stars in the world, Jenna Presley performed in more than 275 pornographic films, stripped for money, sold her body in prostitution, abused drugs and even tried to kill herself – but now the young brunette stunner says she has found her true calling in life.

“Thank you, Jesus! I found Him, I’m home!” she declared, announcing that she has become a born-again Christian.

Presley, 26, whose real name is Brittni Ruiz, said, “It’s been a long seven-year journey of porn, prostitution, stripping, drugs, alcohol and several failed suicide attempts.”

Ruiz, who struggled with anorexia in high school, was reportedly raped when she was 14 years old.

At the young age of 15, she began a career as a topless dancer in Mexico.

By 18, she performed in X-rated hardcore movies, shooting two and three sex scenes a day for $900 each while she was in college.  She won numerous top industry awards for her work.

In an interview with Adult FYI, Ruiz said producers told her she was beautiful.

Upon filming her first sex scene, she recalled, “I felt so loved that day because I was put in hair and makeup. I was told I was beautiful. I was going to be a star.”

She said they made her work relentlessly because she had a very young look. The producers dressed her in children’s clothing and pigtails.

“I already looked like I was 12,” she recalled, adding, “It’s disgusting how they can portray you as a little girl. It’s complete perversion.”

But the industry began to have a devastating impact on her.

“It left me feeling drained,” she said. “I was so robotic, I was like a rubber Barbie doll. I had no emotions. … I was no longer Brittni. I became Jenna Presley. I had an alter ego.”

So Ruiz turned to drugs to numb her pain.

Then she attended a church in San Diego and met a man. They began dating, but he was beaten to death in front of her at a Las Panchos restaurant by members of a motor cycle gang.

“He got murdered, stabbed in front of me,” she said.

The trauma of the incident derailed her faith, and Ruiz began abusing drugs again and tried to kill herself.

Then XXX Church, an outreach ministry that focuses on helping people leave the porn industry and fight porn addictions, found Ruiz at a porn convention. The XXX Church distributed hundreds of Bibles and declared, “Jesus loves porn stars.”

Ruiz filmed her last sex scene in November 2012. She gave her life to God this year and left the industry. She now works for a limousine company.

“It was seven long years,” she told Adult FYI. “I hated what I was doing, but I wondered what I would do next.”

Looking back, Ruiz recalled, “I never found love in my life and was looking for it in all the wrong places. … I have finally encountered the unconditional love of God, and I will never go back.”

Pope Francis on gays: `Who am I to judge?'

ABOARD THE PAPAL AIRPLANE (CNN) –Pope Francis said Monday that he will not "judge" gays and lesbians - including gay priests - signaling a shift from his predecessor and offering another sign that the new pope is committed to changing the church's approach to historically marginalized groups.

“If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?” Francis said in a wide-ranging news conference aboard the papal plane.

Though he was answering a question about the so-called "gay lobby" at the Vatican, the pope seemed to signal a change in tone, if not in teaching, in the church's stance towards gays and lesbians more generally.

The pope was flying back to Rome from Brazil, where he spent the past week celebrating World Youth Day, an international Catholic event that drew millions.

Taking questions from reporters aboard the plane, the pope addressed nearly every hot-button issue facing the Roman Catholic Church: its alleged "gay lobby," Vatican bank corruption, the role of women, abortion, homosexuality and his own personal security.

But it was the pope's remarks on homosexuality - the fact that the head of a 1 billion-member church said that it's not his place to judge gays - that caused the widest stir.

"Pope Francis's brief comment on gays reveals great mercy," said the Rev. James Martin, a Jesuit priest and editor at America, a Catholic magazine based in New York.

Martin noted that Francis also showed "greater compassion for divorced and remarried Catholics, a group that has long felt marginalized in the church, and called for a `deeper theology' on the role of women in the church."

"Today Pope Francis has, once again, lived out the Gospel message of compassion for everyone," Martin said.

The pontiff spoke on the record for an hour and a half in the back of the plane that was carrying him back to Italy after his first international trip as pope to Brazil, where he was greeted by massive, frenzied crowds at every turn.

"I'm happy. It has been a beautiful trip, spiritually speaking; it has been good to me. I'm tired enough but with a heart full of joy," he said.

On Sunday, the mayor's office in Rio de Janeiro said more than 3 million people came to Copacabana Beach for a morning Mass with Francis, who was in Brazil for the weeklong World Youth Day celebration.

Security issues plagued the trip because of Francis' immense popularity as the first Latin America pope. His arriving motorcade was mobbed after a wrong turn, prompting the Brazilian military to raise the trip's security level to "high risk" and send in reinforcements to protect the pontiff, who insisted on being close to the people.

"There is always the danger that there is the crazy person, and we never know what he or she will do," Francis said. "But to create a safety barrier between the bishop and its people is insane. And I'm outside this security. I prefer the risks of the madness outside, to be close to the people."

On the 'gay lobby' and homosexuality

The pope addressed the issue of an alleged "gay lobby" within the church. Hints that the Holy See contained a network of gay clergy surfaced last year in reports about a series of embarrassing leaks to Italian journalists.

The "Vatileaks" scandal factored in Benedict's shocking decision to resign this year, according to some church experts, as it impressed upon the 86-year-old pontiff that the modern papacy requires a vigorous and watchful presence.

"There's a lot of talk about the gay lobby, but I've never seen it on the Vatican ID card!" Francis said.

"When I meet a gay person, I have to distinguish between their being gay and being part of a lobby. If they accept the Lord and have goodwill, who am I to judge them? They shouldn't be marginalized. The tendency (to homosexuality) is not the problem ... they're our brothers."

The problem, he said was, lobbies that work against the interest of the church.

In 2005, during the papacy of Pope Benedict XVI, the Vatican issued directives barring from the priesthood men "who are actively homosexual, have deep-seated homosexual tendencies, or support the so-called 'gay culture.'"

Francis' brief remarks seem to signal a sharp shift from that policy.

On women

The pope also spoke out about the role of women in the church, saying it needs to be deeper and not end. But he brushed aside the possibility of ordaining women as priests, saying the church had spoken on the matter: "The church says no. That door is closed." He did say that more work needed to be done theologically on the role of women in the church.

On abortion

Pope watchers have noted that Francis said little to nothing about abortion on his trip to Brazil. Abortion is illegal in Brazil, except for cases in which the health of the mother is at risk. Laws were recently changed to allow abortions in cases in which the child would be born with certain life-threatening birth defects.

The pope said he had nothing to say on the trip about abortion because the church teachings against it were clear and this trip was the time for "positive" news.

On divorce

"I believe this is a time of mercy, a change of epoch," the pope said when asked about divorce. He said the group of eight cardinals tasked with reform will explore the issue of whether divorcees can receive Communion, which they are currently barred from doing.

On the Vatican Bank

The pope conceded he was unsure what to do with the Vatican Bank, which is known by its acronym IOR.

"Some say that it would be better if it were a bank, others say that it should be a foundation. Other say to shut it down. These are the suggestions going around. I don't know. I trust the commission's members that are working on the IOR. But I wouldn't be able to tell you how this story is going to end."

And as for what was in the black leather bag he carried onto the plane? A razor, a prayer book, a diary and a book about St. Theresa, but, the pope joked, "Certainly not the keys to the atomic bomb!"

He said he carried his own bags because "It's normal, we have to be normal. We have to be accustomed to being normal."

Desmond Tutu: I’d pick hell over an anti-gay heaven

South Africa’s iconic retired archbishop, Desmond Tutu, said on Friday that if he had his pick, he’d go to hell before heading to a heaven that condemned homosexuality as sin.

“I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this,” he said, by way of denouncing religions that discriminate against gays, in Agence France-Presse..

He added, AFP reported: “I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I would say sorry, I mean I would much rather go to the other place.”

He made the remarks during the United Nations‘ launch of its gay-rights campaign in Cape Town.

Mr. Tutu also likened equal rights for gays to the fight for equal rights for blacks.

“I am as passionate about this campaign as I ever was about apartheid,” he said, AFP reported. “For me, it is at the same level.”

MSNBC'S MELISSA HARRIS-PERRY SAYS LIFE BEGINS WHEN PARENTS DECIDE IT DOES

MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry thinks she has the answer to the ages old question of just when life begins. Her answer: life begins whenever parents "decide" it does.

Practically since the beginning of the national abortion debate the most fought over question between the pro-abortion and pro-life sides is just when does life begin? In an attempt to avoid the arbitrary, most try to utilize some sort of scientific reasoning to decide when life is life. The pro-life side says life begins as soon as the egg is fertilized while the pro-abortion side often contends that life isn't life until it is self-sustaining, meaning a fetus isn't "life" until it can survive outside the womb.

But here comes extreme left-winger Harris-Perry to offer the most arbitrary criteria of all: whenever anyone feels like life begins, then that is "life."

"When does life begin? I submit the answer depends an awful lot on the feeling of the parents. A powerful feeling--but not science," Harris-Perry said on her July 21 MSNBC show. 

The implications of this sort of provisional criteria of when someone is deemed worthy of "life" are far reaching, indeed.

As Catholic Priest, Father John Zuhlsdorf points out, if the criteria for when life is actually "life" are built on such an arbitrary and transitory thing as the "feelings" of someone else, then anyone at any time can be deemed unworthy of life.

Zuhlsdorf warns of the obvious conclusion that if someone in a position of power over someone else, "parents" or no, decide a life is not "worth what it once was," well the ramifications are frightening, indeed.

Medical ethicist Leon Kass has also warned of the drive to devalue human life. Ubiquitous abortion, Kass says, so devalues human life that it "means we no longer see a child as a gift but as a product of our will to be had by choice only." That concept, Kass laments, "makes human choice the basis of all value" instead of a reverence for life serving that purpose.

Kass also says, "abortion is connected to lots of other things that are threats to human dignity in its fullness."

But Harris-Perry isn't alone on the left. Left-wing activists such as Princeton's Peter Singer have for years maintained that born babies are not "self-aware, or capable of grasping that they exist," so there is no reason babies cannot be killed even after birth.

Father Zuhlsdorf and Leon Kass warn, though, that if ideas like those of Harris-Perry or Peter Singer prevail then there is no stopping "abortion" even for those already born.

Iran is again asserting that Armageddon is at hand and that the Islamic regime’s followers, indeed all of Islam, must prepare for a monumental change in the world.

Officials of the Islamic regime last month held their annual conference on the Mahdism Doctrine to prepare for the coming of the last Islamic messiah, the Shiites’ 12th Imam, Mahdi.

Shiites, whose clerics rule Iran with an iron fist, believe that at the end of times, Mahdi, a 9th century prophet, will reappear with Jesus Christ at his side, kill all the infidels and raise the flag of Islam in all four corners of the world, establishing worldwide Islamic governance.

Ali Larijani, the speaker of Iran’s parliament, said at the conference that, “I hope (Iran’s) Islamic Revolution is that of the righteous government before the coming,” according to Fars News Agency, the regime’s media outlet run by the Revolutionary Guards.

“Righteous government” is a key to Mahdi’s return, the Shiites believe.

“It has been stated in the Islamic hadith that a wave of uprisings (such as the current upheavals in the Arab world) … takes place before the main uprising and that the righteous government (takes place) before the coming, which I hope (Iran’s) Islamic Revolution is that.”

The speaker said that metaphysics and modern technology have diminished human spiritualism, causing a sense of nervousness in which people have lost hope, and that this effect will reach its maximum before the coming.

“All mental crises are rooted in hopelessness and despair in life,” Larijani said, “and from a society point of view, this is because the big powers of the world are pushing for a culture that has no identity and with their power give their illicit desires a legal aspect. With the help of their media, they explain away the biggest corruption.”

Many regime officials participated in this year’s conference, including military commanders, and several guests spoke of the importance of the Shiite ideology on Mahdi’s coming and the need for jihad for the final battle. The Mahdaviat conference is convened annually to prepare for the coming.

A high Iranian politician said recently that he believes the Syrian revolution could be the catalyst for sparking a worldwide conflagration that will usher in an era of Muslim domination of the world.

“The coming of his highness is assured … the prophet has promised that people from the east, which according to the hadith means Iran, take power and prepare for the government of Imam Mahdi.”

Despite the Islamic regime being under crippling U.N., U.S. and EU sanctions, it has refused to stop its illicit nuclear program. Over a decade of negotiations with talks as recent as April with the 5+1 world powers have failed. The West hopes that it could restart negotiations once Iran’s new president, Hassan Rowhani, takes office in August.

However, a former intelligence officer now defected to a Scandinavian country said the West must understand that even the election of Rowhani was by design by the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, only to buy time so that the regime could reach its goal of becoming a nuclear-armed state. Some analysts believe that Iran’s drive for nuclear weapons is to facilitate the coming.

Any new negotiations must be prompt and serious, making the Islamic regime understand that there will be no wasting time, said the source, adding that the world’s balance relies on how the West handles the regime’s nuclear ambitions.

Iranian media said Rowhani would nominate Mohammad Forouzandeh, a former chief of staff of the Revolutionary Guard and a former defense minister, to head Iran’s nuclear negotiating team.

More than a billion prescriptions are being written by Britain’s doctors every year.

Record numbers taking painkillers, sleeping pills, antidepressants and medication for heart disease and diabetes have helped the figure soar by two thirds in a decade.

More than 2.7 million prescriptions are being written out each day – equivalent to more than 1,900 every minute, according to NHS data.

Just over a decade ago 617million prescriptions a year were being written.

For every person in England, an average of 18.7 prescription items were dispensed in 2012, compared to 17.1 in 2009 and 12.4 in 2002. The most costly condition was diabetes, which accounted for £768 million last year - up 2.2 per cent (£16.2 million) on 2011

There are concerns that the rise has in part been fuelled by GPs handing out drugs such as painkillers and sleeping pills too readily, with many patients quickly becoming addicted.

Meanwhile, campaigners blamed the increase in antidepressants on rising levels of stress, possibly due to the economic woes.

The numbers of prescriptions for the drugs including Prozac and Seroxat jumped 7.5 per cent last year, up from 47million to 50million.

The most commonly taken drugs are statins – to lower cholesterol – aspirin, paracetamol, indigestion relief, high blood pressure treatments and medication for thyroid problems, which affect metabolism.

The most expensive condition to treat is diabetes – which accounted for £768million last year, up 2.2 per cent on 2011.

Overall, the cost of prescriptions to the NHS was £8.5billion in 2012, which is similar to the total cost in 2009. It was £6.8billion in 2002. For every person in England, an average of 18.7 prescription items were dispensed, compared with 17.1 in 2009 and 12.4 in 2002.

That's 19 for every Briton

The NHS’s Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC), which provided the figures, said the rise was partly driven by the increasing population and higher numbers of elderly who are more likely to fall ill. But although the numbers of prescriptions is rising, the actual cost has remained the same as the price of many drugs has fallen.

The data shows nine out of 10 prescription items were dispensed free of charge, with about 60 per cent going to people aged 60 and over.

Dr Andrew McCulloch, of the Mental Health Foundation, said: ‘This further rise in antidepressant prescribing is very worrying given massive Government investment in psychotherapy and the development of other alternative treatments for depression.

The soaring numbers of patients being diagnosed with diabetes, in part been driven by rising obesity rates, will also have contributed to the rise in prescriptions.

The total cost to the NHS of drugs and other medicinal items has been at a virtual standstill for three years, thanks partly to more branded drugs losing patent protection and being replaced by cheaper generics

Robin Hewings, of Diabetes UK, said: ‘These prescriptions help people with diabetes to stay alive and to manage their condition so that their diabetes does not result in serious complications, such as foot amputation and blindness. As well as having a huge personal cost, these complications are extremely expensive.’

A total of 2.9million Britons have the condition – twice as many as 1996 – of whom 90 per cent have type 2, which can be triggered by obesity.

Earlier this week Home Secretary Theresa May said she had recently been diagnosed with Type 1, which is normally spotted in childhood.

Kingsley Manning, of HSCIC, said: ‘For the first time, one billion prescription medicines have been dispensed to our communities in just one year.

‘This figure reflects a continuing upward trend in prescription numbers, which is in contrast to a recent fall in total net cost.

‘Total costs have fallen for the second year running and are now at 2009 levels. 
‘Our report shows that while  people on average now receive more prescription items, the cost of these per head has dropped in the last two years.’

The cost per head of the population increased from £137.80 in 2002 to £159.33 in 2012. It peaked at £167.80 in 2010.

10 Reasons To Love Your Tomatoes

Now that genetically-modified tomatoes are fairly common, the heirloom varieties have become more appealing. Lycopene in tomatoes can reduce heart disease by almost 30 percent and the phytochemical is as powerful as many classes of drugs commonly prescribed for cardiovascular disease. If you’re not already a tomato-lover, here are 10 reasons to start loving them now.

Recent evidence just two ounces of tomato paste or a pint of juice a day could be enough to help many patient avoid dangerous statins the class of drugs commonly prescribed for these conditions which can lead to heart problems.

According to Tufts and Boston University researchers, the highest average intakes of lycopene were linked to almost a 30% reduction in the incidence of cardiovascular disease and coronary heart disease, respectively, according to findings published in the British Journal of Nutrition. 

Earlier forms of this GM crop included the transgenic tomato (FlavrSavr) which had a "deactivated" gene. This meant that the tomato plant was no longer able to produce polygalacturonase, an enzyme involved in fruit softening. The premise was that tomatoes could be left to ripen on the vine and still have a long shelf life, thus allowing them to develop their full flavour. Normally, tomatoes are picked well before they are ripe and are then ripened artificially.

These GM tomatoes, however, did not meet their expectations. Although they were approved in the US and several other countries, tomatoes with delayed ripening have disappeared from the market after peaking in 1998.

Today, tomatoes are being genetically modified to produce a peptide that mimics the actions of HDL cholesterol that biotechnology groups are promoting to supposedly reduce heart disease. 

Similar gene modification techniques were devised in GM crops that led to tumors in a long-term widely publicized study on GM corn fed rats.

If you do love your tomatoes, stick do organic heirloom varieties and support your local farm as they may offer some of the best organic tomatoes. Here's 10 reasons to love them:

1. Tomatoes are rich in a collection of phytonutrients called carotenoids. You’ve probably already heard of beta-carotene and lycopene. But there are others. And exciting research in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute shows that higher amounts of carotenoids–including alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, lycopene, and total carotenoids–may have a reduced risk of breast cancer.

2. According to new research in the journal Cell Biochemistry and Biophysics, scientists created diabetic conditions in animals and fed some lycopene while others were fed their typical diet free of lycopene. The biochemistry of animals fed lycopene returned to normal while the others stayed at diabetic levels. This study shows promise that lycopene (found in tomatoes) can help restore biochemical balance in diabetics.

3. New research in the journal Harvard Health Letter found that diets rich in tomatoes can help prevent stroke. The scientists chalk up the results to tomatoes’ rich lycopene content.

4. Research shows the lycopene found in tomatoes, when eaten regularly, can reduce the risk of heart disease by 29 percent. Fresh tomatoes and tomato extracts have been shown in research to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. They have also been shown to prevent clumping in the blood (known as platelet aggregation) which is a risk factor for atherosclerosis.

5. They contain an important phytonutrient called lycopene that has been proven in studies to fight aging and have anti-cancer properties. It appears to be particularly effective against prostate and colon cancers.

6. Lycopene found in tomatoes even protects our genetic material against damage and the resulting disease.

7. Tomatoes stimulate the production of the amino acid carnitine which has been shown in research to speed the body’s fat-burning capacity by over 30 percent.

9. Lack of lycopene in a menopausal woman’s diet has been linked to osteoporosis.

Some people claim that tomatoes should be eaten cooked for maximum nutritional value. Just adding a dash of olive oil on your raw tomatoes significantly increases the absorption of lycopene. Eating tomatoes in a variety of foods helps ensure the best nutrient absorption. Relish cooked tomatoes in soups, stews, and curries. Enjoy raw ones in salads, sandwiches, and salsas.

Research also shows that the form of lycopene found in yellow and orange tomatoes is better absorbed than from red tomatoes. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the red ones, but throw in some multi-colored heirloom tomatoes into the mix too.
