Concerning the article below; “March 31: Operation Global Blackout: Hackers Intend to Shut Down The Internet.” we will see if this event takes place, we certainly do not have long to wait. If this event does take place, whether it is done by an actual group named 'Anonymous' opposed to US government policy, or is a false flag operation, the end results could be very much the same, a tremendous curtailing and crack down of Internet freedoms and the rise of 'Internet 2' or a similar alternative. A stricter or “upgraded” version of the Internet may very well be used in conjunction with the injectible microchip which has been planned for years as a means for controlling the worlds population, the mark of the beast!

These familiar verses were prophesied two thousand years ago concerning today's electronic chips: “He causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is six hundred threescore and six.” (Revelation 13:16-18)

Recent information has also indicated that some of these implantable chips can also be used to alter bodily functions such as causing aggressiveness, passivity, etc. in individuals.

“The chip had been all programmed in such a way that it not only carried your number and all your records, name, address and phone number and tax records, everything, but the shocking revelation I got in the dream was that it was not merely an identification tag, but it was to tell them even what you were thinking and to also be able to actually program your thoughts and your behaviour so that once you had that chip implanted in your forehead you were their slave.

That sounds all very scientific of course and it looked very scientific, but when you add to that the spiritual power of Satan and his demons and the control that they will have over minds and hearts in those days, then you realize what a heinous, fiendish, demonic system it is going to be. Its subjects will be absolute robots who will take their commands and orders directly from the central computer and broadcasting station and it will control their thoughts, behaviour, actions, everything. This mark of the beast made you a literal slave under the absolute control of the authorities so that they could control your behaviour and know your thoughts.That must be what is so horrible about that antichrist system, that God is so dead set against it, and why He insists that all of them be slaughtered at the end of the antichrist reign, because apparently they're all like brute beasts, created to be destroyed. ( Rev.14:9-11 ; 19:20-21 ; 2Pe.2:12 .) Those who have received the mark have become the absolute robots of the antichrist system. If you permit them to implant that thing in your head you've sold your soul to the devil, because you no longer have your own self-control. From then on you were just theirs, period, that was it! The mark of the beast was going to be much more serious than we had ever dreamed.” (David Berg 1983)

Either way, it is coming. The best way to be prepared is to make sure you have received Jesus into your heart as your personal Saviour. Become familiar with His Words through the Bible so that you will be able “to stand against the wiles ( A stratagem or trick intended to deceive or ensnare.)of the devil” . (Ephesians 6:11)

As we have said before one of the pre-eminent signs of the times in which we are living is deception.

BRICS Move To Replace Dollar With "Super-Sovereign" Global Currency

As China is expected to rise to the status of a financial superpower within the next 8 years and eclipse the US economy by 2020, Africa becomes center stage in the greatest currency war the world has seen since the 1930s, which is now shifting into overdrive.

Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, collectively known as the BRICS nations, are moving forward with their plan to unseat the US dollar from its throne as the global trade currency and to replace it with a Chinese-denominated "super-sovereign" international currency.

This Geo-political game to establish global monetary dominance is by no means limited to the attack on the US dollar. Instead this is merely the first strike of a concerted campaign of worldwide economic warfare that will soon follow which seeks to bring the United States and its western allies to their knees.

Ultimately the BRICS collective is staging a coup to overthrow the current global financial regime that has been dominated by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund since the last global currency war was won at the end of World War II.

The attack comes partially in retaliation for the latest round of quantitative easing in which we witnessed the Federal Reserve deliberately printing trillions of dollars in an attempt to jump-start the U.S. economy by forcing investors back into the U.S. stock market by devaluing the US dollar.

Of course, this came with the (un)intended consequence that devaluing the U.S. dollar erased the profits that nations such as China would have otherwise gained from the trillions of dollars of U.S. Treasury securities they have purchased.

Nations have gone to war for far less than trillions of dollars of bad debt, but at the end of the day it's less about the loss of profit on an investment and more about the economic sovereignty of the BRICS nations being threatened.

The devaluation of the dollar translates into real and direct economic impacts on the economies of the BRICS nations by making their products relativity more costly and in turn harder to sell at a lower profit margin.

Clearly devaluing the dollar forces the BRICS nations to pay the tab for the economic and debt woes of the United States and Europe, while destroying the economies BRICS nations in the process.

Quite frankly, the BRICS nations are pissed about all of this and China has been the most outspoken nation about it in the past.

China has already issued calls for international supervision over the US and issue demands for a single global currency due the combination of the United States debt problems and currency devaluations.

More recently attention has been placed on the escalating trade war between China and the United States, as the United States lives in a glass house while throwing stones at China for being a currency manipulator.

President Obama has even hypocritically signed an executive order creating an Inter-agency Trade Enforcement center to make China play by the rules.

Then there is the recent focus on the Rare Earth Trade war.

But in the meantime very few have paid attention to Africa which has now become ground zero for the BRICS attack to take down the global banking cartel.

In South Africa the collective is pushing the Chinese currency, the renminbi, as part of a pilot program to make the currency the new standard de facto for international trade in emerging markings, which they plan on turning into a single "super-sovereign" global currency.

The hope is that this new currency will strip the global financial regime of its power and hence relieve the United States of its role of imposing its political and economic views on the rest of the world.

Clearly the United States is well aware of this plan and has been making preparations to head off the attack for years through AFRICOM.

This is obviously apparent in the use of USAFRICOM to militarize the entire continent of Africa to fight off China's imminent economic encroachment.

While we consider all of this, let us not forget that the currency war of the 1930s ended with the greatest military war ever fought - World War II.

The move is set to challenge the supremacy of the US dollar. This, experts say, is the latest salvo in the greatest worldwide currency war since the 1930s.

In the 1930s, several nations competitively devalued their currencies to give their domestic economies an advantage over others.

And this led to a worldwide decline in overall trade volumes at the time.

The north will be pitted against the entire south in a historic competitive currency battle - whose terrain has moved to the Indian capital New Dehli - where the Brics (Brazil, Russia, India China and South Africa) nations will assemble next week.

China seeks to find new markets for its currency and to lobby to internationalize it throughout the Brics states.

For China this is not a new game. In 2009, senior Chinese banking officials issued a statement that the international monetary system was flawed owing to an unhealthy dependence on the US dollar and called for a 'super-sovereign' international reserve currency.

Experts say Beijing's first step is to internationalize its currency (by expanding its reach beyond China), liberalize it (to allow its value to be determined by the market instead of actively managing it as they currently do) and then make it a reserve currency for many nations in the developing world.

Africa's largest bank, Standard Bank, says in a research document: 'We expect at least $100bn (about R768bn) in Sino-African trade - more than the total bilateral trade between China and Africa in 2010 - to be settled in the renminbi by 2015.'

Not only will the US dollar be challenged, but also the entire international financial regime - led by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund - which has been dominant since the end of World War II.

The demand for greater political say in international affairs dovetails with China's expected rise as a financial superpower in the next eight years.

Vargas showed the preparatory meeting projections indicating that China's economy will have eclipsed that of the US by 2020, hence the promotion of the renminbi as the preferred currency of the south.

The renminbi has traditionally traded at a deliberately lower exchange rate, which gave a huge boost to China's domestic economic sectors and enabled its booming industrialization and growth.

The US and other trading partners have long accused China of being a 'currency manipulator'.

Last week, Brazil declared its commitment to keep its own currency - the real - low. Its Finance Minister, Guido Mantega, reiterated his November 2010 declaration that a global currency war has broken out.

He said: 'We do not want to lose our manufacturing sector.

'We will not sit back and watch while other countries devalue their currencies.'

Brazil and China cried foul last year when, through a slew of initiatives dubbed QE2 - quantitative easing Two - the US indirectly devalued its currency by pumping about $600bn into its economy to protect the economy from sliding back into recession.

The year-long effort to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad and his government has failed. Two or three months ago, it seemed to come close to succeeding, as insurgents took over enclaves in cities such as Homs and Deir el-Zour. There was talk of no-fly zones and foreign military intervention.

Severe economic sanctions were slapped on Syria's already faltering economy. Every day brought news of fresh pressure on Assad and the momentum seemed to build inexorably for a change of rule in Damascus.

It has not happened. Syria will not be like Libya. The latest international action has been an EU ban on Assad's wife, Asma, and his mother travelling to EU countries (though, as a UK citizen, Asma can still travel to Britain). As damp squibs go, this is of the dampest. The Foreign Secretary, William Hague, claims this increases the pressure on the Syrian government but, on the contrary, it relieves it. Curtailing Asma's shopping trips to Paris or Rome, supposing she ever intended to go there, shows the extent to which the US, EU and their allies in the Middle East are running out of options when it comes to dealing with Damascus.

"Nobody is discussing military operations," the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, said last week. The insurgent Free Syrian Army has been driven out of strongholds in the central city of Homs, Idlib province in the north and, most recently, Deir el-Zour, in the east. Last Tuesday, Syrian soldiers supported by tanks rolled from four sides into Deir el-Zour, which is about 60 miles from the Iraqi border, forcing the rebels to flee and take shelter in homes and apartments after a short gun battle. Their retreat may make it more difficult to bring guns across the Iraq border from the overwhelmingly Sunni Anbar province. The swift Syrian army advance was in contrast with the month-long siege of the Baba Amr district of Homs which killed hundreds of people and left much of the area in ruins. Saudi Arabia and Qatar have blithely advised arming the insurgents, but there is little sign of them doing so.

What went wrong for the advocates of regime change? In general, they overplayed their hand and believed too much of their own propaganda. By this January, everything they did was predicated on international military intervention, or a convincing threat of it. But this ceased to be an option on 4 February when Russia and China vetoed a UN Security Council resolution, backed by the Arab League, calling on Assad to step down. The experience of the US, EU, Nato and the Arab Gulf states in overthrowing Muammar Gaddafi turned out to be misleading when it came to Syria.

This has been the experience of revolutionaries and counter-revolutionaries throughout the ages. What succeeds in one country proves a recipe for disaster in another. There was also a misreading of what had happened in Libya. Watching al-Jazeera television, it might appear that heroic rebel militiamen - and at times they were heroic - had overthrown a tyrant but, in reality, military victory was almost wholly due to the Nato air assault. The militiamen were a mopping-up force who occupied territory after air strikes had cleared the way (this was also the pattern in Afghanistan in 2001 and in Iraqi Kurdistan in 2003).

Conditions are very different in Syria. The regime has a radicalised core based on the Alawite community, a powerful army and security forces. There have been few high-level defections or military units changing sides. Regime loyalists feel they have no alternative but to fight to the end, and are quite prepared to kill anybody who gets in their way. Economic sanctions do not worry Assad loyalists because a dictatorship can always commandeer resources even when they are reduced in quantity. Assad has already lost the support of most of the Syrian business community. Militarisation of the conflict does not pose a threat to the government at this stage; it is more of an irritant, though this could change if guerrilla warfare develops.

In the second half of last year Assad appeared to be facing an all-powerful international coalition. It included Saudi Arabia and Qatar, the US, EU and Turkey. It emerged, however, that everybody was in favour of somebody doing something to bring him down - so long as that somebody was somebody else. There was talk of "safe havens" being established on the Jordanian or Turkish borders, but neither Jordan nor Turkey showed any enthusiasm for an act that would lead immediately to armed conflict with Syria. King Abdullah of Jordan said ruefully that he had nothing against "safe havens" so long as they were a long way from Jordan. Turkey cooled on the idea as it became apparent that it was becoming embroiled in a regional Shia-Sunni conflict that would lead to Iran retaliating against Turkey in defence of its Syrian ally.

The Syrian protesters did everything they could to give the impression that what happened in Libya could be repeated in Syria. They are now being criticised for their divisions and lack of leadership, but probably they felt they had no choice. The uprising had begun among the under-class of Syrians, but by last summer had spread to the middle class. But the use of snipers and death squads by the regime made street protests highly dangerous and they have got smaller in recent months (one of the benefits of the Arab League monitoring team was that it opened the door again to street demonstrations). Protesters now seldom wave olive branches and chant "Peaceful, Peaceful". Militarisation of the protest movement and the increased sectarianism played to the strengths of the regime. Sectarianism not only weakens the opposition inside Syria, it helps divide the coalition facing it abroad. In a presidential election year, US voters do not care much who rules Syria, but they care a lot about al-Qa'ida.

One of Barack Obama's themes in the presidential campaign will be that it was his administration that killed Osama bin Laden and focused, unlike President Bush, on eliminating the perpetrators of 9/11. The White House does not want al-Qa'ida to show signs of life, so it has been nervous of its increasing role in Syria. For instance, only last week an al-Qa'ida-inspired group called the Al-Nusra Front to Protect the Levant claimed responsibility for two recent suicide bombings in Damascus that killed more than two dozen people. "We tell the [Syrian] regime to stop the massacres against the Sunnis, otherwise, you will bear the sin of the Alawites," said the Al-Nusra Front statement. "What is coming is more bitter and painful, with God's will."

The Syrian regime will not fall without a radical change in the balance of forces. The appointment of the former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan as a UN-Arab League peace envoy is a face-saver to mask the failure so far of the regime's opponents. This is bad news for the Syrian people, who face a prolonged and vicious civil war like Lebanon in the 1970s and 1980s.

The hacking group known as Anonymous intends to attack the core servers that control the routing of all internet traffic. DNS, or Domain Name Servers, are a critical backbone of the web and make it possible for internet surfers to reach web site destinations by typing in a domain name in their browsers.

Once a particular web site is requested, a query is sent to a domain name server, which then redirects that web address to a specific IP address on the web. Without these servers, access to web sites through traditional means (typing in a 'dot com') becomes impossible, because there is no way to direct the traffic to the appropriate web site destination.

According to a statement released by Anonymous, it is these servers that will come under fire on Saturday, March 31.

Anonymous says they do not intend to 'kill' the internet completely, but rather, the end game of Operation Blackout 2012 is a temporary take down of the internet where "it hurts most." According to the group, the operation is being carried out to:

...protest SOPA, Wallstreet, our irresponsible leaders and the beloved bankers who are starving the world for their own selfish needs out of sheer sadistic fun, on March 31, anonymous will shut the Internet down.

This is an urgent emergency alert to all people of the United States. The day we've all been waiting for has unfortunately arrived. The United States is censoring the internet. The United States government has mastered this corrupt way of giving us a false sense of freedom. We think we are free and can do what we want, but in reality we are very limited and restricted as to what we can do, how we can think, and even how our education is obtained. For too long, we have been idle as our brothers and sisters were arrested. The United States has often been used as an example of the ideal free country. When the one nation that is known for its freedom and rights start to abuse its own people, this is when you must fight back, because others are soon to follow.

If this latest threat is carried out, it will highlight the significant security risks inherent in the internet as it exists today. According to numerous reports, including those of the head of US Cyber Security General Keith Alexander, infrastructure, commerce and transportation are susceptible to attacks that could damage physical equipment like thousand-ton machines, cause widespread power outages, and affect just-in-time delivery systems that keep food, gas and commerce flowing.

If Anonymous is capable of attacking core DNS servers that take down the web, even for a day, it would be a show of just how fragile our entire way of life really is. Though Anonymous hackers undoubtedly include some of the best and brightest techies out there, they would likely pale in comparison to the cumulative power of hackers operating under the sponsorship of a large Asian government (we won't name any names), or a coordinated rogue terror network that acts not for the purpose of protest, but devastation.

If such an attack were to be unleashed on the Untied States terrorism experts suggest a coordinated take-down of the entire United States could be executed in as little as 15 minutes.

Jupiter and Venus, Higher, More Loving "Order out of Chaos"

I was bedazzled by Jupiter and Venus last night, when I went to snip parsley for dinner. Wow! One is really a bright star - I could see it through the forest! Mars is blinking red too, having come to its closest point (Perigee) on March 5th. Jupiter and Venus come closest astronomically soon, and on March 25th, NASA is hosting an online chat to answer questions about the alignment.

So why is there an illustration here of a scary sea monster? If you look at the actual planetary positions, Jupiter and Venus are near the head of Cetus, a constellation between Aries and Pisces. The Dark Moon will eclipse Venus on the 26th, and then the fist crescent will be visible in a line-up on the 27th! See the Solar System Scope -- on the function, "panoramic view" -- to see the real sky line-up and movement.

The constellation Cetus, also known as the whale, has been associated with beasts of the apocalypse, in particular in the Revelation of St. John, the last book of the Bible. The author and honorary 33rd degree mason Manly P. Hall wrote of Cetus in The Secret Teachings of All Ages, "While most interpreters of the apocalypse consider the various beasts described therein as typical of evil agencies, this viewpoint is the inevitable result of unfamiliarity with the ancient doctrines from which the symbolism of the book is derived. Astronomically, the great monster rising out of the sea is the constellation of Cetus (the whale)."

The idea of Kali Yuga, is that we're in an era of descent into chaos, out of which something new will emerge. There's the mysterious maxim we see around, on the U.S. currency, in Latin translated as "order out of chaos," possibly hinting that there's an awareness in come circles, of the end of the age -- and being alert to directing that toward a desired reality. Is it evil to create an intended order out of these cycles of chaos?

That question gets complicated when you consider there could many competing agendas, for the future of humanity. And some intended outcomes may serve to benefit a few -- those at the top of a pyramid, for example. The stellar mythologist John Lamb Lash of Metahistory.org, has pin-pointed March as the time when humanity sees behind the mask of Cetus.

In an introduction to what he calls Gaiaspora -- scattered adepts of the Earth mysteries -- he writes, "The Cetus-Ram tableau represents the confrontation between humanity (the luminous child, or anthropos) and the Archontic forces, described in the Gnostic text, On the Origin of the World...."

The ancient gnostics warned of a force that played demonic trickster, called Archons. Barbara Hand Clow believes the Archons to be thoughtforms created by we humans ourselves, from the trauma of a great cataclysm tens of thousands of years ago. This Archontic force or mind virus, is only able to create imitations, the virtual or simulation to induce the real thing.

Now I'm piecing something together here, just to make the connection to what we're seeing with the apocalypse phenomenon, a descent into chaos -- that word, remember, means unveiling. There's a lot of seeing through the illusions, and facing the dark or what's viscerally sensed is evil. An example is the slow creep of culture that corrupts with violent, dehumanizing scenes or creepy use of occult images.

It takes me back to the echoing advice of Barbara Marcinak, to exercise extreme discernment. When the outer is spiraling into chaos, Jupiter and Venus remind us that we can rely on principles of truth, beauty, love, friendship, honor and conscience to see us through. It's also interesting to note the feminine in Venus, her presence greatly ennobled and enlarged by Jupiter, meeting universal chaos. Many sense we're at a crossroads, staring into a void, out of which many different futures are possible.

The next New Moon is in the astrological sign Aries, the sign of the warrior -- for being a warrior for these elevated and timeless principles. The Moon, Venus and Jupiter meet near the head of Cetus, the creature emerging out of chaos, as something wholly new. It's a chance to face the chaos with courage, and with the intent to create something aligned with our highest values.

LOS ANGELES PASSES RESOLUTION AGAINST 'INTOLERABLE' RADIO SPEECH

The Los Angeles City Council has passed a resolution condemning speech on radio that some may find "intolerable."

According to the local CBS station in L.A., Councilmember Jan Perry "introduced legislation this week that would call upon media companies to ensure 'on-air hosts do not use and promote racist and sexist slurs' on radio and other broadcasts."

The resolution, which the L.A. Times notes is only a "symbolic" move, passed 13-2.

"It's exactly appropriate for this council to speak up against the vile things we hear on the airwaves," Councilman Paul Krekorian told the Times. According to him, he doesn't want to see free speech stifled, but rather is looking "to seek a greater consensus on what is appropriate speech and to reject what is not." [Quote is referring to the Times' paraphrase -- it is not Krekorian's exact words]

That raises the question: Isn't coming to a greater consensus on appropriate speech the beginning of censoring free speech?

Just consider what local radio host Dominique DiPrima of KJLH-FM (102.3), who supports the resolution thinks.

"Instead of censoring people, or firing people, we want to see representation in terms of hiring and clear standards of what can and can't be said on the air," she said. [Emphasis added]

And that raises another question: Who decides what is tolerable and intolerable beyond the regulations already set forth by the FCC?

Locator chips keep track of students in Brazil

SAO PAULO (AP) -- Grade-school students in a northeastern Brazilian city are using uniforms embedded with locator chips that help alert parents if they're cutting classes, the city's education secretary said Thursday.

Twenty thousand students in 25 of Vitoria da Conquista's 213 public schools started using T-shirts with chips earlier this week, secretary Coriolano Moraes said by telephone.

By 2013, all of the city's 43,000 public school students, aged 4 to 14, will be using the chip-embedded T-shirts, he added.

Radio frequency chips in "intelligent uniforms" let a computer know when children enter school and it sends a text message to their cell phones. Parents are also alerted if kids don't show up 20 minutes after classes begin with the following message: "Your child has still not arrived at school."

"We noticed that many parents would bring their children to school but would not see if they actually entered the building because they always left in a hurry to get to work on time," Moraes said in a telephone interview. "They would always be surprised when told of the number times their children skipped class.

After a student skips classes three times parents will be asked to explain the absences. If they fail to do so, the school may notify authorities, Moares said.

The city government invested $670,000 to design, test and make the microchipped T-shirts, he said.

The chips, similar to those used to track pets in many countries, are placed underneath each school's coat-of-arms or on one of the sleeves below a phrase that says: "Education does not transform the world. Education changes people and people transform the world."

The T-shirts, can be washed and ironed without damaging the chips, Moraes said adding that the chips have a "security system that makes tampering virtually impossible."

Moraes said that Vitoria da Conquista is the first city in Brazil "and maybe in the world" to use this system.

"I believe we may be setting a trend because we have received many requests from all over Brazil for information on how our system works," he said.

Pink slime factories shuttered after massive public backlash

For several decades now, the conventional beef industry has secretly been lacing ground beef products with an industrial, ammonia-laced byproduct known as "pink slime," a disturbing fact that recently came to the forefront of national attention after Food Network chef Jamie Oliver first drew attention to its existence. And consumer backlash has been so strong ever since that a number of supermarket chains, restaurants, and even schools have decided to stop supplying it, which has caused its primary producer, Beef Products Inc. (BPI), to close three of its four manufacturing plants.

USA Today and others are reporting that Dakota Dunes, South Dakota-based BPI is temporarily closing its Waterloo, Iowa; Garden City, Kansas; and Amarillo, Texas plants for an indefinite period of time as a result of widespread consumer rejection of pink slime products. Workers at these plants will continue to receive pay and benefits for the next 60 days, but it is unclear what will happen after these next two months expire, should the plants continue to remain closed.

Meanwhile, BPI is launching an aggressive public relations campaign to fight back against its critics, which includes claiming that pink slime is "100 percent beef," and that it is a highly-nutritious and safe product. And many in the media are jumping onboard this propaganda bandwagon by spinning the situation back against consumers, who are technically victims that have been been duped all these years into buying ground beef products that were secretly adulterated with pink slime.

In case you missed the original story, pink slime, which is officially known as "lean finely textured beef," is basically a low-cost ground beef filler composed of beef scraps that are mashed, processed with a chemical ammonia solution, and turned into an unappetizing pink paste, the pictures of which have circulated the internet in recent months (http://www.naturalnews.com/035255_pink_slime_USDA_school_lunches.html).

This pink slime has been added to roughly 70 percent of all ground beef products since the 1990s, but few were aware of it. Pink slime is obviously not labeled on ground beef packages, and the only way consumers can know for sure that they are not consuming it is to buy local or organic ground beef, or to watch the beef being ground fresh before buying it.

BPI, mainstream media launch attack on consumers for rejecting pink slime

It is abundantly clear that the vast majority of American consumers are not interested in feeding their children a highly-processed additive that has been treated with toxic ammonia, which is why the product is being pulled from grocery store shelves, restaurant menus, and schools all across the country. But BPI is not going down without a fight, as it is launching a campaign that basically insults the intelligence of Americans by claiming that pink slime is no different from real beef.

But according to former U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) scientist Gerald Zirnstein, pink slime is not actually meat, nor is it as nutritious as meat, a sentiment to which his former colleague Carl Custer also agrees. And Kit Foshee, a former executive at BPI, appears to hold the same view, having told ABC News that pink slime is processed from fat and cuts that would otherwise not ever be used as food.

"Microbiologically safe and nutritionally complete are two different issues," said Custer to ABC News, referring to BPI's claim that pink slime contains little fat and is pathogen-free. "It may be pink [but], nutritionally, it is not equivalent to whole-muscle tissue" (http://abcnews.go.com).

Political correctness or political insanity? New York City schools ban words, topics from tests

If anyone needed a single case to point to in order to show that political correctness has gone completely insane here in the United States, this is it. With the rise of such practices, we also see the growth of the "nanny state" which seeks to control every aspect of our lives.

The New York City Department of Education has banned several words in an attempt to be as politically correct as possible, although I see it as pure imbecilic nonsense.

There are some 50 words which are officially banned from being used on tests given to students by the city. Some of the more insane choices are: dinosaur, birthdays, wealth, poverty, Halloween, dancing, terrorism, divorce, references to disease, slavery, creatures from outer space, and many more.

In fact, it is not just these words that are banned, but indeed the entire topic cannot be included on any tests administered by the city.

This is supposedly because such references "could evoke unpleasant emotions in the students," according to the New York Post.

These subjects were outlined in a request for proposals which was given to companies who compete to create standardized tests for English, math, science and other subjects which are administered multiple times per year.

Dinosaurs are banned because they supposedly might offend people who do not believe in evolution, yet this makes little to no sense given that even the most fundamentalist creationists seem to realize that there were, indeed dinosaurs.

Even the so-called "Creation Museum" in Petersburg, Kentucky includes a dinosaur exhibit called the "Dinosaur Den."

The only people who refuse to recognize that dinosaurs existed are likely delusional or potentially insane. If the people behind the Creation Museum can agree that dinosaurs existed, as they actually have "a number of real fossilized dinosaur eggs, a Hadrosaur tibia, [and a] Triceratops skeleton casting," on display, who out there refuses to acknowledge their existence?

Words suggesting either wealth or poverty are banned because they could supposedly make children feel jealous or saddened. I guess the New York City Department of Education believes that if you pretend it doesn't exist, it simply doesn't exist.

Seems to me that the Department of Education has a great deal in common with ostriches and babies under 7-9 months who have yet to develop object permanence, according to Piaget's Stages of Cognitive Development.

This head-in-the-sand approach is also applied to divorces and diseases, since students might have divorced parents or might be sick in one way or another.

I guess they believe that if students don't read the word "divorce" or anything to do with it, they'll simply forget that their parents are divorced.

That makes about as much sense as thinking that if no one says "cancer" or "disease" suddenly no one in the world will have cancer.

However, the Department of Education insists that this is not censorship and that this is a completely routine, typical practice.

Unfortunately, our government has proven time and time again that they're not the most competent individuals when it comes to logic and critical thinking.

"Some of these topics may be perfectly acceptable in other contexts but do not belong in a city- or state-wide assessment," the request said.

Unfortunately, New York City is not alone and such "sensitivity guidelines" have actually been published by a group of states. They said that tests should not mention group dancing, various luxuries, junk food, homelessness and even witches.

"This is standard language that has been used by test publishers for many years and allows our students to complete practice exams without distraction," a Department of Education spokesperson said, as reported by the Post.

However, this fails to address the fact that New York City's list is almost twice the length of those produced by others and has even fewer exceptions.

It is my humble opinion that censoring any topic from a standardized test (within reason, of course, as explicitly violent or erotic material obviously has no place on a school test) is nothing short of absurd and represents some of the more troubling ways the American "nanny state" has reared its ugly head.

According to the list, tests cannot mention homes with swimming pools and computers or anything which could be construed as potentially "disrespectful to authority or authority figures."

Even more insane, they are not allowed to personify animals or inanimate objects, which makes even less sense than most of the items.

According to officials, this is not necessary an absolute ban, as some items can be included on exams but only on a case-by-case basis.

"The intent is to avoid giving offense or disadvantage any test takers by privileging prior knowledge," Robert Pondiscio, a spokesman for the Core Knowledge Foundation, said to the Post.

"But the irony is they're eliminating some subjects, like junk food, holidays and popular music, that the broadest number of kids are likely to know quite a lot about," he added.

"If the goal is to assess higher-order thinking skills, controversial topics, for example, ones that are the subject of political debate, are exactly what students should be reasoning about," Deanna Kuhn, a professor at the Teachers College at Columbia University, aptly pointed out, according to the Post.

One of the most common justifications for these nonsensical practices is that they are attempting to avoid offending people of certain religious beliefs.

Birthdays are banned since Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate them; witches and Halloween are banned since they could be interpreted as pagan; and terrorism is banned because it might be scary.

If you're absolutely astounded by these choices, you're not alone. I honestly can't even believe that such a thing is true, but I guess it goes to show just how far our country has gone down the rabbit hole of political correctness and the freedom-crushing nanny state.

Trees give off electricity, scientists say - especially eucalyptus.

Scientists in Australia found the area round trees was filled with charged particles - ions - both positive and negative.

Levels were twice as high in wooded areas as they are in open, grassy areas, and deep-rooted trees such as eucalyptus were even higher.

The researchers from Queensland University of Technology don't believe that the ions are in themselves harmful to health.

Researchers have long believed there is a link between trees and electricity in the atmosphere but have been unable to prove the association.

But scientists from the Queensland Univeristy of Technology have shown that concentrations of negative and positive ions in the atmosphere were twice as heavy in wooded area as in grassy regions.

Dr Rohan Jayaratne said the charges could be explained by radiation from the gas radon.

Radon is a by-product of the radioactive decay of radium, which is exhaled by the ground.

Trees acts as pumps, bringing the gas to the surface and releasing it, said Dr Jayaratne.

He said: 'Because radium is found in rocks and radon is soluble in water, ground water is particularly rich in radon.

'Trees act as radon pumps, bringing the gas to the surface and releasing it to the atmosphere through transpiration - a process where water absorbed by the root system is evaporated into the atmosphere from leaves.

'This is especially prevalent for trees with deep root systems, such as eucalyptus.'

Writing in the journal Environmental Science and Technology, they estimate that in a eucalyptus forest trees may account for up to 37 per cent of the radon in the air when transpiration rates were highest.

The charged ions could have health implications although they are not believed to be harmful on their own, he said.

He explained: 'Although there is an established link between airborne particles and human health, the role of ions is largely unknown.

'However, we do know that approximately one-half of the particles that we inhale during normal breathing are retained in our respiratory system and it has been shown that charged particles were more likely to be deposited in the lungs than uncharged particles.

'We do not believe that ions are dangerous - the danger comes from the pollutants. If there are no dangerous particles in the air to attach to the ions there is no risk of ill health.'

Thousands of New Agers descend on mountain they see as haven from December's apocalypse

A mountain looming over a French commune with a population of just 200 is being touted as a modern Noah's Ark when doomsday arrives - supposedly less than nine months from now.

A rapidly increasing stream of New Age believers - or esoterics, as locals call them - have descended in their camper van-loads on the usually picturesque and tranquil Pyrenean village of Bugarach. They believe that when apocalypse strikes on 21 December this year, the aliens waiting in their spacecraft inside Pic de Bugarach will save all the humans near by and beam them off to the next age.

As the cataclysmic date - which, according to eschatological beliefs and predicted astrological alignments, concludes a 5,125-year cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar - nears, the goings-on around the peak have become more bizarre and ritualistic.

For decades, there has been a belief that Pic de Bugarach, which, at 1,230 metres, is the highest in the Corbières mountain range, possesses an eery power. Often called the "upside-down mountain" - geologists think that it exploded after its formation and the top landed the wrong way up - it is thought to have inspired Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth and Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Since the 1960s, it has attracted New Agers, who insist that it emits special magnetic waves.

Further, rumours persist that the country's late president François Mitterrand was transported by helicopter on to the peak, while the Nazis, and, later, Israel's Mossad, performed mysterious digs there. Now the nearby village is awash with New Agers, who have boosted the local economy, though their naked group climbs up to the peak have raised concerns as well as eyebrows. Among other oddities, some hikers have been spotted scaling the mountain carrying a ball with a golden ring, strung together by a single thread.

A grizzled man wearing a white linen smock, who calls himself Jean, set up a yurt in the forest a couple of years ago to prepare for the earth's demise. "The apocalypse we believe in is the end of a certain world and the beginning of another," he offers. "A new spiritual world. The year 2012 is the end of a cycle of suffering. Bugarach is one of the major chakras of the earth, a place devoted to welcoming the energies of tomorrow."

Upwards of 100,000 people are thought to be planning a trip to the mountain, 30 miles west of Perpignan, in time for 21 December, and opportunistic entrepreneurs are shamelessly cashing in on the phenomenon. While American travel agents have been offering special, one-way deals to witness the end of the world, a neighbouring village, Saint-Paul de Fenouillet, has produced a wine to celebrate the occasion.

Jean-Pierre Delord, the perplexed mayor of Bugarach, has flagged up the situation to the French authorities, requesting they scramble the army to the tiny village for fear of a mass suicide. It has also caught the attention of France's sect watchdog, Miviludes.

A genial sexagenarian, Mr Delord says: "We've seen a huge rise in visitors. Already this year more than 20,000 people have climbed right to the top, and last year we had 10,000 hikers, which was a significant rise on the previous 12 months. They think Pic de Bugarach is 'un garage à ovnis' [an alien garage]. The villagers are exasperated: the exaggerated importance of something which they see as completely removed from reality is bewildering. After 21 December, this will surely return to normal."

Masking his fears of what might happen on 21 December, Mr Delord jokes that he will throw a party and supply vin chaud and cheese. "I'm sure we'll have a little fete to celebrate that we're still alive," he smiles. "I suppose it's up to each of us to find our own way."
